Tell us a little bit about your business

Dean and Karl founded KDA Web Services Ltd. over 20 years ago to be different, they didn’t want to be just another company selling hosting, anyone can do that.  They wanted to be a part of their customers teams, to go above and beyond just providing a space to upload a website to and to get to know their business, their needs and their issues and provide solutions to help them grow.

Where were you before ActionCOACH?

At the time we decided to work with ActionCOACH we had been in business for just over 19 years and had built our business mainly based on word of mouth and become somewhat complacent in attracting new customers. Inevitably this was starting to have an impact on the business, especially when we lost 3 of our top 5 customers due to mergers and bankruptcies. From a personal perspective, we’d also become somewhat jaded and weren’t working effectively as a team to take the business forward.

Why engage in ActionCOAOCH?

We were somewhat sceptical about coaching to start with, but we had nothing to lose initially as the first ActionCOACH Sheffield event we attended was a free seminar and workshop, we both walked out of it and said the same thing, “We need to look at this some more”. We’d got stuck in a rut and we knew we needed some expert help to get back on track. We knew if we wanted to be in business for another 20 years that we needed help to get us back on the right track and find our mojo again. Sitting in the office with Jon and acknowledging that we weren’t enjoying the status quo was a big moment, and felt like a big weight had been lifted from our shoulders.

Time being coached

We’ve been working with ACtionCOACH Sheffield and Jon now for nearly 3 years.

Results achieved

We’ve had a lot to do in terms of working on the business, but the changes from 3 years ago are massive and now starting to pay dividends. We’ve had a lot to work on, including our own personal development and opening up to different ways of working and thinking, getting rid of our bad habits. We’re now a team again, moving the business forward in a clear direction, which somewhat ironically has meant going backwards and doing many things we used to do 15-20 years ago. Turnoveris up, profits are up and more importantly than any of that, we’re enjoying the journey, surrounded by a great bunch of like minded people, which is amazing.

One piece of advice

Do it, stop colouring in, stop procrastinating on it, there will never be a “perfect” time to take action. We should have done this 10 or even 20 years ago. If we’d had this kind of help and support when we set up in 2000 we’d be a very different business, and retired from day-to-day working.
